From Counsellor to Advocate: My journey began in the heart of gender-based violence advocacy, where I dedicated my early career to supporting survivors. Employing a trauma-informed and feminist approach, my work aimed to not only support and uplift those impacted by violence but also to create and foster safe, empowering spaces. This period was crucial in shaping my understanding of the profound impacts of advocacy and the importance of creating environments where individuals feel seen, heard, and respected.
Pursuing Law for Change: Driven by a desire to tackle inequity at its roots, I turned to tlaw as a powerful tool to enact change. My pursuit of a Master’s in Law, with a focus on international human rights, and my time teaching critical thinking in China, reinforced my commitment to addressing systemic issues through legal frameworks. These experiences deepened my appreciation for the law's potential to transform societies and protect the most vulnerable.
Advocacy Through Legal Practice and Education: As a lawyer, my mission has been to challenge and address state actions that breach individual rights, engaging in Charter challenges that seek to hold governments accountable. Beyond the courtroom, I've embraced platforms like TikTok to demystify the law, making it more accessible and understandable, thereby promoting access to justice. My work in "movement law" reflects a belief in community engagement as a crucial form of legal advocacy, recognizing the power of collective action in driving societal progress.
Through each phase of my career, from counselling to legal practice and public education, the core principles of empathy, equity, and empowerment have guided my path. My commitment to these values continues to fuel my efforts in breaking down barriers, advocating for change, and supporting community empowerment through the power of legal knowledge and action.

I have always been interested in law. After taking a break from school for a few years following the completion of a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology and English at Wilfrid Laurier University, I completed Seneca’s paralegal program and became a licenced paralegal in Ontario (not currently practicing). However, I quickly discovered that my strengths did not lie in arguing at a hearing or mediation, I much preferred to assist in the background. I love editing, research, and formatting documents, so a law clerk position felt like a wonderful fit. I get to stay in an area I enjoy and know that I am helping people, without battling my nerves by speaking in front of multiple people at a hearing.
I’m grateful that I had the opportunity to get to know Nicole while working at a previous firm. Her empathetic and trauma-informed approach to work, and life in general, reminded me why I was interested in law to begin with––I wanted to help people. I jumped at the opportunity to work with her again at Bird Bolt Law.
When I’m not working, I enjoy taking my sidekick Willow to training and doggy parkour classes (she and I still have a lot to learn together), cuddling with the feline portion of my two four-footed family members, reading fiction, and making crochet toys for my friends and family.
