Building Something Different: From Advocacy to Action

I founded Bird Bolt Law because I believe the legal profession can be both effective and human. What started as supporting survivors of gender-based violence has evolved into building a feminist firm that challenges how law is practiced; not just what cases we take, but how we show up for our clients and each other.

The Foundation: Learning by Listening

My path began in gender-based violence advocacy, where I learned that real change happens when you create spaces where people feel truly seen and heard. A Master's in International Human Rights Law and time teaching critical thinking in China deepened my understanding of systemic issues, but it was the day-to-day work with survivors that taught me the most important lesson: legal expertise means nothing without genuine compassion and trauma-informed care.

From Courtrooms to TikTok: Making Justice Accessible

These days, I'm in courtrooms challenging Charter violations and on social media making legal concepts accessible to anyone who's ever wondered about their rights. I believe legal knowledge shouldn't be gatekept behind jargon and paywalls. Whether I'm working on constitutional challenges or explaining complex legal principles in 60-second videos, the goal is always the same: ensuring people have the tools and support they need to seek justice.

Running a firm while parenting three small children has taught me that the legal profession's culture of burnout isn't sustainable, and it's definitely not necessary. I'm determined to prove that effective, profitable legal practice can also honour our humanity, our families, and our wellbeing. When I'm not building cases or building systems, I'm probably building with Legos or drinking a matcha and sitting on a beach. Always available for conversations about justice, movement building, or how to create workplaces that actually work for real people.
